We haven't tried NetMeeting on the new M10's yet, but because you can stipulate ranges of ports for the pinholes it has a good chance of working - we just need to find out exactly what ports we need to pinhole. I have a line of communication with Terry Allen the Microsoft Internet Business Manager, so I will ask him to chase down the details for NetMeeting and any other Microsoft apps.

If you wish to connect a LAN with one of the internal modems you will need to source your own proxy software. I suggest Wingate (www.wingate.com) - its a NZ developed product too!

The NEC devices did work without a lot of these problems but had other issues ranging from Y2K compliance to backend support systems that made them the poorer cousins. The whole reason for a trial is to find these issues and solve them so keep the feedback coming!

Thanks,
Mark Barlow :-)

Subject: Efficient Internal ADSL Modems

Hi everyone,

Most of you either have applications that you are having trouble getting working or a custom NAT setup to enable Web / FTP / Telnet servers.

As previously mentioned to some of you, Telecom is about to swap out the Nokia M10's that you originally had installed. In their place will be a new updated M10 with some software / config changes. The most visible difference however is that advanced configuration such as NAT Pinholes are no longer available. Will this make it allow more transparency for netmeeting etc Mark?

However in view of the issues that you have experienced we will also be offering the opportunity to take an internal modem instead. This will be on a trial basis but it should eliminate all of the issues that you might be experiencing with the external Nokia's. The internal modems do not use NAT and provide the PC they are installed in with a public IP address (albiet dynamic not static).

If you are operating a LAN then it will be necessary to use some proxy or NAT software of your own to enable the rest of the LAN to see your connection. Will this software be available Mark?

I have included a PDF brochure on the internal modems. These are currently shipping with Windows 95 / 98 / NT drivers and I understand that Efficient are working on a Unix driver.

If you would like to receive one of these internal modems rather than the new Nokia M10's, please reply to this message. A spare PCI slot would also be necessary.... Mark! I recall the NEC devices worked without the current problems.... Thanks for your consideration, David

Thanks,
Mark Barlow :-)
