I'm very perplexed as to why this, seemingly arbitrary, limitation still
exists after all the changes that have been made in the new release of
software.

Additionally perplexed that the new software has been supplied by a swap out
of hardware? I hope this isn't going to be necessary everytime in the
future... surely the software can be upgraded over the link?

I suspect in a permanent connection environment, one will want servers
permanently available, and the limit of eight seems to me to be the easier
more consistent approach (platform independant too).
