Isn't there a way to run port mappings via the ssh tunnel? I may not be
putting this very well, since I've never used ssh for anything cept rsh/telnet
replacement, but I got the impression you could VPN using ssh to carry,
internal to the VPN, other protocols...

Course, this doesn't much address the issue of limited pinholes.

And are we providing sufficient information on our pin-hole successes for them
to be use in a FAQ?
