Using a standard modem on an ADSL enabled line...

Make sure that you are using the standard POTS jacks and not the ADSL jack as this carries all of the high frequency ADSL signal that will prevent your modem from working correctly.
If you are using a POTS jack when you are experiencing this problem then it is probably because the Low Pass Filter (that allows only the voice frequencies to pass to and from these jacks) is trimming the upper frequencies (used by 56K modems in particular). Most modems will operate OK on the POTS jacks but will be restricted to approximately 40Kbps. However some 'cheaper' modems connect at a higher speed and then don't gracefully degrade as they detect high error rates and fall over.
If this doesn't help then tell us...
- the type of modem
- which jack you are using it on
- exactly what is occuring including the speed the modem connects at and what speed it is running at when it drops the connection.
- why you want to use a dial up modem when you have an ADSL connection?

I use my dial up modem to send and receive faxes over our ADSL line and can successfully connect and hold a connection at 46Kbps! - it's a US Robotics 56K.

Is anybody having problems with analouge modems disconnecting while run on
the same line as their adsl? seems to be quite severe with me, yet the same
set up on a plain line works fine....
