Are you guys talking MegaBits or MegaBytes?

I routinely get 400kbps (kilobits) both at home and on the Helpdesk connection!

Mark :-)

I have never had 6meg/sec down, my best was 160k/sec sustained from
Ihug on the old NECs.

I used to run a q2 server at kascha.xtra.co.nz and have a good idea of
the pings i got depending on the number of ppl logged on, unfortunately
since I now pay for volume I cannot run and cross check ping times.
(well I could but 20~50gig amonth is a little tomuch in dollars).

>and he said they are all capped at 1.5Megs now.

This might explain why I feel I have been getting slower downloads,
when I first got the New M10 it told me 2000K/sec on a download (guess
the file was in a cache on a server) now i seem to be about 1 to 20k,
when 40~70k was typical before. Its been this way for 4 weeks now,
also my line quality has deteriorated markedly as I am now having
repeated disconnections when I had no problems before with the NEC
boxes. Generally I think the M10s feel cheap and nasty compared to the
NEC boxes.

I would not be terribly impressed either when xtra/telecom advertise at
6meg/sec then cap quietly to 1.5meg/sec, this to me if correct it is
fraudulent as this is the service we agreed to, of course its a trial so
legal proceedings maybe out at the moment.

As always its proving this is happening, and will depend on what
xtra/telecom do actually advertise as when its 'commercially' released,
as consumers not businesses many of us would still be covered by the
consumers act I assume, even if we are on a 'commercial' service. If
nothing else the bad press Telecom we could generate on this issue
should embarress them (it may not of course).

As far as I know there are no NEC boxes left, the guy who changed
mine said I was the last or last but one.

>there connection now, that is, if anyone has any of there 300megs left
<they care to waste anyway, do a download of ftp.xtra.co.nz and tell

I will have a look and see if the linux q3 is there i have a list of mirrors,
ive been trying to get into 1 for 2~3 weeks.
