Why use PPP then? It would seem redundent over ATM unless you
needed the PAP login and password. Remember the marketing model is
one where you can expect to log into xtra for mail then switch to paradise
for gaming and maybe clear for the cheap weekend rate for international
traffic before logging into TVNZ for the movie. (read the blurb on the redback
site)

My understanding was that IP's wre assigned from the ISP's pool by
Telecoms RAN before the PPP authentication was passed through to the
ISP's RAN. This puts the cost of provisioning the IP's with the ISP and
allows each ISP to authenticate and meter their own traffic (or do you think
they rely on Telecom to tell them their traffic? I don't know!) with their
existing dialup hardware and software.

I'm guessing,,, I don't know the answer. Shane must if he's still with us?

Mine has only changed once in the last month or more where I could not
understand the reason for the change. by the way.... Has anyone else had
problems with the M10 name not resloving properly on the inside after a
number change? Mine is resolving to the external number as well which
has surprised me... unfortunately it seems to get confused after a change
so I can't yet use DNS in my scripts.

Perhaps we have the answer between us... If the traffic measured is IP and
below PPP then the only thing to tie the traffic to the client is the match of
the PPP PAP info to the IP address. yes?
