Of course if you keep the daily sys report email (generated out
of /etc/periodic) out could subtract the the throughput on
whichever ethernet card is connected to the modem on the first
day of the period (or the last day you rebooted the machine) from
that of the last day of the period. This should at least give
you an approximation of the traffic over that network link which
can be taken to be similar to the traffic of the ADSL link
barring the obvious exceptions (esp connections refuse by the
modem from outside and or connections to the modem from the
inside)
