Subject: My thoughts on ADSL
Having been repeatedly attacked for weeks on end and sitting nice and safe
behind my own firewall I think the Hardware firewall is a good idea for many
users who dont have a spare old machine to turn into the firewall (like Dan
i learned howto build a firewall and use linux). Otherwise yes it would be
nice to go direct to my firewall with a public IP so there should be an
option for disabling it.
The NEC was superb I had 1 or 2 resets in 18 months, most failures were at
telecoms router (or what ever) The M10 would seem as reliable just the RAN
being a pain.
Other points static IP etc of Dan's I agree with.
The cost was a shock, I expected it to go up quite a bit but not to the
extent it has, in the end it would have seemed to force people to use modems
again that is what i am doing, at $40 a month flat rate then use the radsl
for big downloads. This would seem self defeating on Telecom's part as I am
on IHUG so they dont get any income.
Otherwise Telecom's and Xtra's service has been superb.
now i have to go im late...
