An open mail relay is a mail server which allows anyone to send mail via
that server. Such mail servers are often open to exploitation from
spammers. And we all show know how bad spamming is.
On the nz.comp newsgroup, a list of NZ open mail relays was posted
today. Some of these IP addresses appear to be ADSL connections. If
you are running a mail server at home please check to see if it allows
mail relay. The following URL will do that check for you:

Please be a good net citizen and don't allow mail relay. Help to stamp
out spam. Also: if your mailserver allows relay, you will get charged for
any mail sent via your mailserver. This isn't just about being nice. It's
about money.
Instructions for disabling mail relay vary from mail server to mail server.
If you are running sendmail, upgrade to 8.9.3 which disables relay by
default.

INPUT_IP = IP address tested (message injection point)
OUTUT_IP = Delivering IP address (message output point)
If there are multiple INPUT_IP's for a relay, the OUTPUT_IP
is shown only once. This makes machines with multiple IP
interfaces or which are smarthosting open relays readily visible.
When filing hosts as secured, only the OUTPUT_IP should be entered.

Entries more than 4 weeks old are automatically retested,
however please file these closed if they've been secured, as the
retesting cycle on hosts previously known open takes at least
2 weeks.
