I agree that this charge is outrageous, but wholly predictable. However this is probably not the list to send to a message to Telecom??

Subject: ADSL Reconnection Charges

Dear Telecom,

I am a current Xtra Velocity residential customer.

I am currently in the process of moving flats, and I've enquired how much it
would cost to reconnect ADSL in my new home. I was quoted $250 for a
reconnection via the jetstream helpdesk (0800 738 738), which I thought was
a little on the steep side, so I've done some further investigation:

On this page on the Telecom web site:

http://www.telecom.xtra.co.nz/cgi-bin/AtHome.storefront/465252472/Product/Vi
ew/CP3_1_1?guide=search

The cost of installing a second line into a residential address is $45, this
includes a "site visit and jackpoint, worth up to $175.00".

It seems to me the work involved with installing a second line isn't that
different from what would be involved in installing an ADSL jackpoint into a
home. Where does the extra $75 go?

Also, on this page on the Telecom web site:

http://www.telecom.xtra.co.nz/cgi-bin/TelecomBusiness.storefront/1830108708/
Product/View/JS_GetJet#offer

It states that the $300 new ADSL connection fee would be waived if you sign
up for a 12 month term.

When I rang the jetstream helpdesk, I enquired if there was any special
deals available that would make the reconnection cost less, the helpdesk
replied "No".

Why is the afore mentioned 12 month term no (re)connection fee not offered
to existing customers who are looking to move?

Thanks,

David Malpas.
