Different modems, different performance

If anyone is having problems with slow speeds or bad connects due to their distance from the exchange, then here is an account of my experience:
We tried to get ADSL installed at our Auckland branch, but upon investigation found out that we are 3.35km from the exchange (theroetical max distance).
Now, there are three different type of M10 out there at the moment (I'm talking about hardware types, not software variants).
On the bottom of the M10 there is a serial number that starts with a T, followed by some numbers and then another letter, either a A, B or D.
The A model would connect sometimes, and when it did its transfer speeds made a 56k modem look good.
The B model wouldn't connect, ever.
The D model connected at almost top connection speeds, with local transfers at approx 120k/sec and international transfers averageing 20k/sec (from a good server, i.e. www.cdrom.com).
Moral of the story is : Everyone try and get themselves a D model! especially if you are getting bad connections.
