Well, as agreed, Saturn turned up this morning and installed the cable
modem and chello. The installer was very approachable, and had no problems
with the machine I was going to use being Linux, nor that I had a wee LAN
around my house.

The whole install process was literally minutes, the modem was attached
in parallel with another modem, with the 2nd modem connected to a laptop,
and a web-based client set up the cable side of things. Once that was
done, I could plug my laptop (Linux based) into the cable modem, it
configured the address by DHCP (a public address, BTW, not a private one)
and we were off laughing.

In fact, the whole install couldn't have been more than half an hour.
It's running very well now, a quick 1MB download test from a site I know
has a lot of spare bandwidth gave me 61KB/s, although the site is within
NZ.

Now all I'm waiting for is my new gateway hardware to arrive, and I'll be
set :)
