I'm trying to logon to a server which is set up differently than I'm used to
- it's using a port rather than a straight IP (does that make sense?).
Apparently, I'm connecting at their end but at this end my FTP client just
says 'entering passive mode' and sits there looking back, eventually
refusing the connection. I suggested to the Admin that it may be because I'm
using ADSL which he agreed as he had seen it happen before. I then contacted
by ISP (Asia Online) who said I needed to set up a pinhole and to contact
Telecom, which I did. They were happy to help but said I needed to find out
more info and send me in this direction.
I have also set up Web Sharing (thru Mac OS - essentially a web server)
which works fine but not outside my LAN (fat lot of good that is!) I can
only assume that it is the same thing as above.
Do I need to set up a pin hole for each 'problem' or can I set up one that
covers it all?
Thanks
Duncan
