Apparently the PAP authentication occurs between some Telecom equipment and
the ISP so it could be at either end.
When I first noticed the problem, I rang the Jetstream helpline, and was
told that they had had a few problems like that this morning, so I phoned
Iconz. The phone was answered, I explained the problem, response "I will
transfer you to someone who can help", phone answered, I explained the
problem (again), response "I will transfer you to someone who can help"
(again), phone answered, I explained the problem (yet again), response "try
this login" I asked for some info, and was told "You will have to talk to
iconz about that". Turned out that I had been transferred to Telecom -
thanks for getting us up & running again :-)
Still waiting for a call from someone (Telecom I think, but I got a bit lost
about who I was talking to for some strange reason ...
BTW if this has happened to anyone else (ie supplied with a temporary xtra
login) and you need to send email, you will probably need to change your
smtp server in your email programme to smtp.xtra.co.nz because your emails
probably won't be accepted by your ISP's server.

Have you verified with ICONZ that they are receiving data from you?
We had a similar problem that was the result of a faulty exchange or
something, and none of our packets were actually getting to ICONZ.
