Changing ADSL from one account to another

Ok I have had ADSL at my home from January this year under my flat-mates
telecom account (I also have two other connections under my name for work
purposes). He moved out last month, and last week he closed his telecom
account. I started a new account under my name, and asked for the ADSL
account to be transferred across. Sounds like a simple enough operation?

Well, I just got a phone call, they can't authorise the ADSL connection
until my new phone account is 'posted' as a closed job, which apparently
only happens once a week on fridays, which means I am without my connection
until at least next week. And, just to kick me while down, I have to pay
the $300 new connection fee again, even though I already have the Nokia
modem, filter, splitter etc still installed!!

Also under the old account we had paid in advance till 13th September, but
the ADSL stopped working on the 7th, which means we miss out on the last few
days of our flat-rate special. I know that is only 6 days of lost service,
but it's the principal of the matter!

Any Telecom people on this list, please explain the reasoning behind all
this?!? And everyone else, be very careful about changing around your
accounts with jetstream!
