Redundancy and the like

This is along the similar lines of the "you scratch my back and I'll
scratch your's" secondary dns hosting discussion that was going a while
back.

Since, I don't work on the same site as my Jetstream connection, and I'm
sure many here don't, I can't often easily test my net connection to see
if it's up or not, due to firewall probs, etc. I've also been having a
few connection problems with the *new* Nokia Mw1122, so...

I was thinking that we could get a simple shell script for those who run
*nix to ping an address, see if it's up every so often, and if there's
no ping reply, an email sent out to an address saying there's a problem.

Any takers?
