Apparently, the way the IP address is assigned via PPP at authentication
time makes it difficult for them to route downstream networks.

(Well, that's one of the reasons given anyhow)

The modems are perfectly capable of routing otherwise.

You can achieve what you want regardless, by using the one IP address you
already have if you pinhole SMTP (TCP port 25) mail in to your mail host,
and web traffic (tcp port 80, 443)to your webserver.
