Certainly that might be the case, but consider: (this from a std 512/128
business connection.)

Cable to rachel.
--- rachel.paradise.net.nz ping statistics ---
20 packets transmitted, 20 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev = 17.434/23.819/28.150/2.249 ms

My other cable connection (the 2/1 connection):
--- bag.kiwa.co.nz ping statistics ---
17 packets transmitted, 17 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev = 42.159/46.485/54.367/3.078 ms

Generally when it works it works well enough. Given the difference in
pricing, I'm willing to accept that tis latency is generally good enough.

Nicholas
