Is your motivation for an internal versus external device based on the
normal cost/physical advantages or the requirement to lose the
security/routing funtionality?

drivers are only in beta and might not work. Anyone know otherwise?

This is obviously a reference to the Efficient SpeedStream 3060 PCI ADSL
Modem retailed by Telecom for $370. Efficient Networks' web site still
provides the statement:

"Windows 2000 Drivers

Efficient Networks has Windows 2000 BETA drivers for the SpeedStream 3060
available for evaluation.

Consult with your ISP before installing these drivers, as they may not
provide technical support for this operating system.

This software may not be supported by your ISP or Efficient Networks. USE AT
YOUR OWN RISK. If you encounter issues or have enhancement suggestions,
please submit these through e-mail at support@efficient.com.

Windows 2000 drivers for other Efficient Networks products are forthcoming.
Please check our site regularly for updates."

To solve this problem you either have to purchase a third party product with
existing Microsoft Windows 2000 support or avoid the device driver support
problem by purchasing an external modem and/or router with Ethernet and/or
USB interfaces.

Some telepermitted products available now or very soon include:
3Com HomeConnect ADSL Modem PCI for $369
3Com HomeConnect ADSL Modem Dual Link for $450
3Com OfficeConnect Remote 812 ADSL Router for $1,206
Cisco SOHO 77 ADSL Router for $1,413
Cisco 827 ADSL Router for $1,557
Dynalink ALE070 ADSL USB Modem for $495

Personally, I chose the 3Com HomeConnect ADSL Modem Dual Link but it doesn't
work because my exchange hasn't been upgraded.

Hope this helps.
