We have VNC working perfectly to a number of sites, through all versions of
modems (M10,11,W1122).
You should only need 5900 unless you're using the Java client. If you set
up more than one machine internally, you'll need to change each port number
and add individual pinholes for each (5901,5901 etc.).

I'd suggest checking the routing between the adsl router and the internal
machine, because it really was a simple pinhole setup as far as we were
concerned.
Do you have anything in between the router and your network?

Cheers,
Ben.
