I have got several replies - Thanks everybody, sounds like it could be
hardware fault. It just hung again a few minutes ago (second time today)

The Software in the modem is

SW boot version: Bx1x2008.R01
SW appl. version: Gx1x2210.R09
HW version: T66520.02 A

Somebody suggested that appl version below R09 is buggy, so I guess that we
are OK there. Looks like I will have to get telecom to fix/replace the
modem.
