I use a 3com Dual Link (USB/RJ45) external modem , and find I get
disconnected on average about 3-5 times a day. There doesn't appear to be
any set pattern. Sometimes it'll stay online for 5 hours at a time,
sometimes 1 hour. It doesn't interfer with my day to day use, as the
Enternet 300 software just reconnects again automatically, and I see it as
an advantage in that I regularly get reallocated a new IP address.
The ADSL link LED always stays lit during this time, although a couple of
weeks ago, I found that sometimes a disconnect would occur during an
incoming or outgoing phone or FAX call on the same shared line. I'm
connected to the Browns Bay, Auckland exchange. I wondered too whether
frequent disconnects were "normal" or just telecom playing at their end.
