Surely that's like saying, "If I buy a Brand X modem I'll only get 50kbps where as the spec for this protocol says I could get up to 56kbps"...

(I believe) All Telepermitted ADSL modems support both T1.413i2 and G.992.1 (G.dmt) protocols which are also both supported by the DSLAM, so it's kinda like having a dual mode 56k modem connecting to a dual mode terminal server - it will just connect at the top speed your line can handle which may or may not be the top speed the spec allows for _in_theory_.
There shouldn't be any reason for a modem to have a lower top speed than the spec states otherwise (my guess is) that would break the spec.

Even though all (if not then most) Telepermitted ADSL modems also support G.992.2 (G.lite) this is not being used in New Zealand (I don't believe it's supported in the DSLAMs yet).

JetStart is probably a bandwidth throttle on your port at the DSLAM using the same protocol as full bandwidth JetStream.

It shouldn't matter which modem you buy you should get the same results on your line and you should be able to order either service from Telecom without needing different modems because the modem you bought is only G.dmt or G.lite.

Jeremy.
