It's interesting that those pages leaked by XTRA didn't mention G-Lite, and
as they suggest a home visit is needed to install a splitter, it looks to me
like some arbitary speed throttle they'll set at the DSLAM as you suggested.
That means they can adjust the speed limit at any time, depending on how
threatened they feel by Ultra, Saturn or any other broadband competitor.
Selling ADSL to the masses could easily overwhelm the available bandwidth,
especially when flat rate, so if the uptake is relatively low, let's hope
they move that to a 256k or greater limit sooner rather than later. As a
relatively heavy home business user, I find 600MB far too limiting, and will
gladly move to flat rate 128k, unless full speed ADSL drops in price
significantly. However, I can't see the price dropping rapidly while large
businesses are happy to pay the sort of costs associated with 1GB+ plan.
What we need is some real competition out there.
