A few things -
They will be offering 128k up, 128k down. Ultimately the performance you
will get is determined by your ISP and the available bandwidth.
128k = 128kbits aprox = 128000/8 = 16kbytes max.
IE, a 56k connection is 56kbits, not 56kbytes, so your speed is slightly
more then double (ignoring compression)
The biggest thing (imho) is the latency. A modem can either send or
receive, but not both at the same time - at least not at 56k. This is
a contributing factor to the latency. You would expect the ping time
to drop quite a bit (nominally by half). This gives a much faster
sensation when surfing the 'net and online games, although won't do much
for you with file transfers.
128k of bandwidth sells (wholesale) for between $900 and $1200 - very
roughly. If clients are paying $30, no ISP in there right mind will
provide a guaranteed 128k bandwidth.
