Dont you think its a bit silly to Telepermit devices which may cause
downtime for other users?

So should we not telepermit cordless phones because a power surge to
the base unit might send a surge down the copper pair to the PSTN
network and cause downtime for other users? What about customers who
have their own routers that plug in to the DSTN via DDS, frame, ATM,
x.25, etc? Their equipment can all cause potential damage to the network
which could affect other users.
