Thank you and most interesting. Does anyone know if:
Hi Mx,
Going solely by the USB specifications a USB ADSL modem would be an unwise purchase.
If you do some research into USB characteristics you will understand why:
http://www.mackido.com/Hardware/USB2.html
The above link discusses USB as well as USB 2.0. Also realise that USB 1.x devices (keyboard, mouse, USB modem, etc.) will destroy the performance of future USB 2.0 devices. I'd hate to imagine the latency problems as well. Do you really want your latency to increase b/c you also have a USB mouse? "When the low speed mode's data (packet) is being sent, then you can't be sending the high speed data (packets)." Bad for gaming I'd imagine.
I'd connect an ADSL modem to nothing less than a dedicated 10Mb connection.
I have a Microsoft optical mouse. When plugging it into a USB port I get uneven response when accessing my hard disk (even at a higher refresh rate). I get smooth movements by connecting it to a PS/2 port (which has a dedicated interrupt). Now imagine if that mouse was a high bandwidth device where low latency was crucial!
Regards,
Adam

Has anyone tried or purchased a Dynalink USB ADSL Modem.
How do they perform?
Any problems with gaming on them? any lag etc?
I am considering purchasing one.
