Glad it worked :-)

The difference is probably due to different network cards (presumably
you've got a PCMCIA card in the notebook) on different types of I/O
buses and / or a less powerful CPU in the notebook.

Is that kilobits per second or kilobytes? If it's the latter, it's pretty
damn good. What speed does the router report?
