We did quite a bit of investigation into this about six months ago, the main
issue was that Appletalk was a dying protocol and finding the right mix of
products, that are available/supported in NZ, was a problem.

We eventually worked out that the cheapest solution was to ignore that fact
that you are trying to route Appletalk and just bridge ethernet across a VPN
tunnel. There is a downside to this, Appletalk is reputed to be "chatty" and
you may get a lot of background traffic pumping up the JetStream cost.

We never got to test it, the client worked out that it would be lower TCO to
replace the Apples with Windows boxes and run accross standard TCP/IP VPN
links.

Subject: Appletalk VPN?

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the list but have been browsing the archives. I thought I'd ask
the list this question before wasting too much time searching the net for
info.

I have several legacy applications at work that use the Appletalk protocol,
and I would love to be able to use them from home. The LAN at work is
connected to a 1500MB/month Jetstream account, and my LAN at home has a
400MB one. What combination of hardware / software can connect these
networks together most easily?

Thanks,

Steve
