I too am intending to try this as soon as I can get my hands on
a modem. On the downside such a hack would mean that the original
pppoe would fail. Any post Dec 2000 -STABLE should have the tcpmssfixup,
or get the latest version from Brian Somers home page

THe other option is to try compiling hte rp-pppoe and see where it dies.
I am unclear if it requires a different pppd or if the FreeBSD one will
suffice. But if they can meake it work on MacOS X then it ought to
be relatively simple.
