Does this mean that if i use a friends full jetstream login the traffic is
simply billed at my rate (flatrate jetstart) to my line account?
but who pays the extra 50c per meg or whatever for the 2nd connection, me as
i logged in second, or them as it is their account?

Subject: HUGE WARNING ON JETSTREAM BILLING!
Hi
I have been using a jetstart account on my jetstream connection while a
friend was waiting for his ADSL NT to arrive.
This of course works, and I was getting a 16 K throttled connection, which I
should. HOWEVER! I was billed all traffic to my Jetstream account.
Telecom informs me this is correct and says I can expect a call from a
manager to confirm this later today. They say they have never told people
the billing works this way.
Now I ask you?.. do you think the bill should be againt the Phone Line that
the ADSL is connected to or the account logged on.
There are 2 huge issues from my view
1) I was getting jetstart service. IE, I was throttled, therefore I was not
getting jetstream speed, so why should I pay for a service I was not getting
2) If anyone with a vaild jetstream / Jetstart logon can logon to my ADSL
modem and then I get billed, then wheres the security in that!!!!!.
On a smaller note, Telecom advertised that additional simulateous logins on
Jetstart will incure a 1$ per meg charge. Ths certainly imply's you can
logon to more than location.
I tell you, If telecom forces this Im talking to a lawyer, and if I loose Im
switching to something else, plus ditching my home line for my Vodafone
cellphone. ( You can tell I'm a little annoyed right!)
Comnments?
oh this got bouced, so now I can udd a document Im working on..
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Document to send to telecom Manager.. ( Conevert to plain text ( YUK!))
1) Documentation
There is no mention that billing is done by ADSL connection as aposed to the
user name on any web sites. The fact that the free context requires is a
change of login reinforces the belief that billing is done by login.
2) Level of Service
I was not getting Jetstream service during the time of downloading. in
Jetstreams own definition the minimum line speed is 2 meg. I was getting
Jetstart service level. ( 128 k)
Quote from Jetstream site.
Telecom may restrict data transfer speed across the Telecom Broadband
Network for network protection, operational, or other reasons, but it will
not restrict data transfer speed below the target JetStream line speed other
than temporarily and solely for network protection reasons.
Therefore, the restricted download speed during the Jetstart login breaks
this gaurenteed level of service.
3) ISP's List of Costs
Xtras definition of Costs for the Jetstart account states that the account
can be used in more than 1 location.
Quote from Xtra
There are no additional charges for how much information you download!
However more than one connection to the Telecom JetStream network using your
Xtra JetStart login ID will incur a $0.50 per MB charge.
Since there was only ever 1 Login into the Jetstream Network, the 50c per
meg fee should not apply. ( It does not state that the 1 connection has to
be at a specific location)
4) Security
Your method of billing by line as appossed to Login and password, neglects
any possible security. Any users can logon to my ADSL modem and all data is
charged to my account. Therefore the Usernames and passwords are pointless.
IF BILLING IS DONE BY LINE, THEN WHY ARE THERE USERNAMES AND PASSWORDS AT
ALL?
This is completely different to the normal way that a Dial up modem security
connection works. Surely something this important should be stated somewhere
in the FAQ's or terms of service.
