treated identically by ISPs. When you order jetstart, your phone number is
added to a database that is updated daily at about 4am. When you login to
any realm apart from the free realm (jetstreamgames.co.nz) then your port
number (ala phone number) is checked against the list on that database. If
it's there, then your connection is throttled accordingly. This makes no
difference if you use a jetstream login, jetstart login, xtra or webinternet
login. They are all the same. If you notice your connection going uncapped,
it's because the ISP has screwed up.

Here I would beg to differ. As you said, the uncapped connection is due to a
fault in Telecom's database, so no ISP (Telecom's not an isp - ha ha) has
screwed up. My connection recently got fixed from being un-rate-capped and
all the details of my connection provided to the RADIUS
connection/authentication system at telecom have not been changed since
early december last year. Incidently, I have a feeling that when telecom
change things (probably in the radius parameters) it doesn't update ZyXEL
642R routers properly (I noticed two of them just stopped talking to their
external interfaces - just after such a change).

you'll just find yourself with a fat bill at the end of the month. Like I
said above, data and billing plans are sorted by port number (ph number) and
not ISP account.

This way of doing things has its downside in that your jetstart/jetstream
isn't portable, but I guess this isn't a major concern to 99% of most people
(well, what could ya do anyway... :)
