I don't know how their JetStart database works, but for DNS this makes perfect sense. You update the zone database file, but named will only reload its database files when you issue the ndc reload command. Imagine if named reloaded all its data every time you made a minor change to any zone! The computer would spend all its time reloading data (the majority of which doesn't even change), and DNS response time (which is the actual purpose of the computer) would sink through the floor.

Perhaps this is why the JS database only gets updated once a day...? Perhaps we'll never know. I'm all for bashing Telecom, but not everything is a fault :)
