OK, after reading this list I decided to get the 3com modem and have a
crack at getting jetstart
going at home, I suspect however that I have ended up a little out of my
depth and was wondering if someone might be so kind as to give me a
couple
of pointers.
Note, I am far from a linux expert :)
I have:
- installed the roaring penguin PPPoE rpm, and it seems to be running
fine, installed without errors.
- uncommented the line in /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf which concerns the 3Com
modem.
- ensured that it has the correct login name and password given to me by
the friendly jetstart folks.
- I can both telnet and serial connect to the modem to make changes to the
configuration.
I have read all the documentation that I could find on the CLI, the modem
and PPPoE, but am not sure how to configure it for the NZ setup, and the
details seem to have been glossed over in earlier posts on the subject. Can
anyone help me there, I suspect this is my problem.
- and why the hell didn't telecom tell me about VCI/VPI=0/100, leaving me
to find it somewhere
hidden on the net ??
- the modem thinks that it has a connection to the ATM network (I assume
this as the ADSL light stops
flashing after a while, and this seemed to be the conclusive test as far
as the installation contractor
was concerned)
If anyone can offer some hints for things for me to try it would be very
much appreciated :), I am including some excerpts below from the debug file
I get when running 'adsl-start' in debug mode, I am not including the whole
file as it is a little large, so I might be missing out some useful bits...
thanks
Wayne
