OK, I probably should not have blamed telecom, I guess that was just my
instinct as these are
 paramaters which are particular to their network, not any particulat ISP,
or consumer hardware...

.. or have I got this wrong ?

Why blame Telecom and not who sold it to you!!

 - and why the hell didn't telecom tell me about VCI/VPI=0/100, leaving
me
to find it somewhere
 hidden on the net ??
