Out of interest can anyone calculate or advise how to calculate the traffic volume generated by such frequent pings?
If no activity that would be X bytes x 7200 per day. What is X???
(Hmmm, I suppose this is less of an issue given "almost" flat rates presumably being used.)

Subject: 3Com Dual Link and Windows 2000
| Here's how I've worked around the problems with the 3Com Dual Link
| disconnecting after 15 seconds idle, using Windows 2000.
|
| I'm using a program called Multiple Tray Ping from
| http://www.moxom-software.co.uk/ to keep the connection alive when otherwise
| idle. I have it set to ping a host every 12 seconds, and ticked the "Reduce
| Delay" option so if a ping fails, it will only wait 1 second to retry.
|
| Also, right-click on the system tray icon and choose "Application
| Settings" - tick "Persistent Connection" so it will automatically reconnect
| if the connection is lost.
|
| I'm not using it for anything mission-critical, so I haven't tested how long
| the connection can stay up, although I've noticed it go over a day. I'm
| sure it can't come near my old M11, which had an uptime of well over a month
| at one point :)
