Well, a ping every 12 seconds is better than using the Windows ping command,
which keeps pinging constantly :)

I try not to ping the same server all the time anyway. Some keep-alive
software will let you enter a whole lot of host names/IP addresses, and will
pick a random one of these each time it sends a ping. However all the ones
I looked at would only let you specify the ping interval in minutes, which
is no use with the 3Com.
