Alex.

I do agree with you. and as I said in a previous message I have been
provided with a sheet on the VCI settings (etc) from our wholesaler, which
was simply a copy of a Telecom Newsletter (125).

Thanks

David

Yes I should have done a google search, I made a judgement as to what
the best way to find the information would be and decided to do a
manual search of Telecom's web site. In hindsight a google search
would have been better.

I went through the windows setup to get the modem working under windows
first, folowing the manufacturer's install instructions, selecting
"easy setup" type options. I find this is the best way to set up
networking connections or devices as a first step if I'm not familiar
with all the details. Once it is woking under windows with default
settings, then I go on to customise/ install in linux.

It was during this "easy windows setup" phase that I was asked for the
VCI/VPI (and PPPoE/PPPoA/Bridged, but I already knew that from
discussion on the list). As you say, the setup process asks me to
contact my ADSL line supplier for these details, which is what I did.

Once I had it working under windows, the linux setup was relatively
straightforward.

AFAIK, my experience was exectly what the average 3COM modem purchacer
would go thru. Presumably, the 3COM distributer, with a little feedback
and encouragement from Telecom, will eventually start including an A4
photocopied page with the relevant details :)

However, the point still stands, Telecom would make their life easier
if they included these details more prominantly on their website.
