Hi Nick,

How quickly the worm turns.

Just checking out the site here's the press release:
http://www.alcatel.com/vpr/?body=/latestnews/12022001uk

It's fantastic that the driver will be open source.

But check out these terrible inaccuracies:

"Linux is a high-end computer operating system that was designed to provide
personal computer users with a royalty free operating system that can handle
large data files better and more efficiently than standard operating systems.
The Linux operating system, developed by Linus Torvalds at the University of
Helsinki in Finland, is the platform of choice of technical and academic users,
as well as for many e-business and service provider applications."

Linus Torvalds initially created the (GNU/)Linux _KERNEL_. And I'd need to see
some serious benchmarks to determine whether GNU/Linux can hand large data
files better and more efficiently than other standard operating systems (like
FreeBSD, the Unixes, Windows 2000, etc.) Frankly the statement is ridiculous.

The drivers don't appear to be available either.

Still this is a massive change for a company that wouldn't support Linux a few
months ago:
