I have my linux box setup to log each time it reconnects the adsl modem, and
i notice that it seems to reconnect once a day, different time, but it looks
like it connected with the same IP and it did hardly any traffic and
reconnected, this time to a new IP address.

Im just wondering if anyone has logs kept for other types of modems or
whether the 3com dual link has a tendancy to reconnect more often due to the
having to modify the LCP ping or whatever it was.

also - Is it possible this is in fact a telecom / ISP plan to prevent people
from using semi-static IP adresses, (do they disconnect twice a day just to
be annoying?)

Just wondering, as i am interested if the reconnect once a day is what can
be expected?
i was talking to someone i know with a dynalink external USB and he has
noticed every 12 hours or so it will reconnect.
