I have contacted Clear's Helpdesk periodically over the last few months to
try and glean when Clear might be offering ADSL and initially was told by an
enthusiastic operator to wait for their ADSL offering as it was 'imminent'
and later another operator even gushed that pricing would set new levels of
competition!
The end of last month month I went to a product seminar which was promoting a
range of ADSL hardware solutions. The blokes leading this seemed to think
that Clear wasn't going to offer retail ADSL, and that their focus would be
to business users in CBD areas where Clear had rolled out fiber or wireless.
So early this month, another call to Clear and the news given seemed to
confirm Clear was NOT going to offer ADSL to residential users, and that
their broadband offering to businesses would be announced 'any day now'. So
nearly three weeks ago a couple of half page colour adds appeared in our
local rag offering Clear's 'Tempest' service with Free Installation for a
limited time (normally $750), I rang the 0508 number given and spoke to an
operator who knew nothing about the adds or 'Tempest'. I read the details
out, to which she replied 'you have the wrong number - this is the Clear
Residential service number - you need our business division' and transferred
me to another operator who also new nothing of the adds and had no info on
'Tempest' but she would get a customer service rep to call me back with the
details. To this day I havn't heard back. Now the adds also stated details
were available on their Web Site so off I go looking... nope nothing I could
see at a glance...perhaps its in 'What's New' - nothing there.... do a site
search on 'Tempest', not a bean.
I have been with ClearNet almost since their day one (both as a business and
residential customer) and for whatever misplaced reasons was happy to stay
loyal to the brand. So now I'm thinking Clear are probably now only
interested in the 'Corporates' so its time to ditch them and begin looking
elsewhere...then...
In last Monday's Dominion Infotech (26-2-01) in article headlined 'Clear,
TelstraSaturn behind the JetStream', Clear Spokeswoman Rochelle Lockley is
saying that Clear will resell Jetstream under it's own branding, in the first
wholesale deal for Jetstream. The article says that Clear has yet to finalise
pricing, service plans, and contractors to install user equipment. Lockely
goes on to say that the launch date is 'imminent'.
Is there anyone on this list that has definitive information about what Clear
is up to or am I wasting my time with them ?
Cheers
Kendall
