Hi Joel,

In a nutshell if you want non-Windows support you get a full ADSL
modem+router or go for an ADSL modem that has support for an alternative
OS.

Two good alternatives are:
3Com Dual link
ASUS External Router.

The 3Com will allow you to exploit the full NAT/Masquerading/Routing power
of a Linux box.

Here's one place that typically has good prices:
http://www.pp.co.nz/
(No affiliation, just posting the link so you can get some idea of the
prices).

So you're looking at prices around $470 incl. GST.

Less money if you don't mind being tied to Windows--freedom always has a
price :-)

I am not aware that the Ni500 can be used under Linux.

Regards,
Adam

Subject: Re: New Nokia Pricing!

Can an ignorant 'newbie' ask a stupid question here:

The DSE site for the Ni500 say that you need Windows. Is this a slipup on
their part (they mention it on pretty much everything), or is this some sort
of Win(ADSL)Modem?

The answer that im really looking for, is can it be used under Linux?

Failing that, whats the cheapest external ADSL modem arround?
