I have been asked to post the following to the list (Peter is not a
member himself).

The self-install option for JetStream and JetStart works as follows:

1. Customer applies for Jetstream from Telecom. We will validate that
your line is capable of gettign jetStream (99% of cases)

2. Customer purchases modem and filters from retailer. These must have
a valid PTC but otherwise can be purchased anywhere.

3. Telecom connects the JetStream service to the Customer telephone
line at the agreed date/time.

4. The Customer installs the filters between each of their telephones
and their BT jacks.

5. The customer plugs their adsl modem into any BT jack (but not using
a filter).
It is possible to have both a phone and an adsl modem in the same BT
jack, but the filter must be between the telephone and the jack (and not
between the modem and the jack)

6. Customer should have service

In the event of the customer not having service, probably because of
wiring issues, then Telecom will send out an Installer to try and get
the service working. This will cost the same as the standard install (an
additional $ 79) and will result in a splitter being installed in the
house wiring. At this stage the filters from step 2 above are no longer
required and should be returned to your vendor.

7. In the event of the installer not being able to get ADSL working
(this is rare but does happen) then Telecom will not charge the customer
anything and will reverse and connection fees already charged.

Telecom encourages self-installs and in the event of problems caused by
the self-install you should not be charged any more than if you had
opted for the next installation option (although I would make sure the
filters are returnable in the event of them not being used).

As for knowing where the 0+2's are - our database integrity is very
high and <<1% of installs fail (for a number of reasons and not just
because the circuit is derived and we didn't know). So Craig is correct
in what he says - the possible issue of being on a derived circuit
(including 0+1, 1+1 etc) is sorted out at the prequalification stage -
ie if Telecom says you can have it it should go!

Cheers
Wayne

Unfortunately not quite right Craig, Telecom doesn't even know where
half
the 0+2 filters are installed!
Also the cheap install is specified as a property that has already had
ADSL
installed, not as an option for do it yourselfers and my Telecom
contacts (I
contract to a Telecom provisioner and dealer) have advised they will
not be
nice if it's a do it yourself and they end up having to fix it.

All the troubles you say above will be looked into when you Ask for DSL
to
be installed on your Line and be fixed/changed if needed. So if you
are
accepted when the self-installed Filters will work perfectly well.
