That "stage" should read:

"I have established a TCP connection on port 1723, I will now try to start a
GRE tunnel and run PPP across it".

GRE is broken. What "routing" gear is @ remote clients, what service pack on
NT (don't answer 4 or 5)
Have we "pinholed" GRE correctly, ports 0 - 65535?
