I got mine from Harvey Norman. Their sticker price was nearly $100
higher than Ascent's, but the salesman took $60 off when I pointed
out that I knew where I could get it cheaper. I figure that was
pretty fair, since I'd just spent an hour with him opening boxes and
reading manuals. And I'd have to pay for shipping with Ascent as
well. With the local store if it doesn't work I'll just go in and
beat them about the head and pick up another one...

I don't know how it works for ADSL yet -- installation is tomorrow morning.

I'm already using it as a hub in my home office connecting a
PIII/1000 (Win2K, 100baseT), Athlon/700 (Linux, 100baseT), an old
G3/266 laptop (MacOS X, 10baseT), and a 20m cable connecting it to a
10baseT hub in the house with assorted thinnet and 10baseT machines
hanging off it (couple of Macs, Indy, HP4V printer, SPARC...). Works
fine.

One glitch -- I tried setting the DHCP configuration using a web
browser and it fails on almost every browser I have:

- IE 5.0 on MacOS 9.2.1: "Invalid IP address" javascript message when
validating the form
- IE 5.1 on MacOS X 10.0.4: "Invalid IP address" javascript message
when validating the form
- Communicator 4.7 on MacOS 9.2.1: "Document contains no data" (can't
even bring up the initial menu)
- OmniWeb 4 on MacOS X 10.0.4: doesn't display the login page

- IE 5.5 on Win2K: works OK
- Communicator 4.72 on RedHat 6.2L works OK

So it seems that their http server and/or their web pages are pretty
non-standard or not well tested or something :-(
