I have now setup I have used dyndns. It is indeed a very useful service.
Thanks for that :) ..
One question about something you said .. you said that your jetstart
connection changed 20 - 50 times a night.
Are you using a modem ? .. or router ?
Im on jetstart as well, and although my ip is not static, it pretty much
remains static for ages. But I guess its just because of the router :)
..
Oh well thanks for everything :)
Cheers
Jithen

Go to http://www.dyndns.org/
Assuming you have a dynamic IP, you will need some sort of domain / ip
routing so someone can find you any time.
For example, I use severed.homeip.net due to the fact im on Jetstart.
Sometimes the DNS servers in the US take time to catch up to us when my
IP changes, but hey, it's a free service.
Now, in order for this service to run successfully, you should download
and install one of the recommended clients / broadcast services. This
usually runs as an NT service (I run Direct Update) which communicates
your current IP back to dyndns.org automatically. Real handy, as I find
my Jetstart connection changes its IP 20-50 times a night!!!
So, you can then tell your visitors to use jithen.homeip.net (or what
ever you use as there are a number of domain names you can select from)
so you can then make your FTP any port you want. Eg,
ftp://jithen.homeip.net:8000 or 21, or what ever you set you server and
modem up to accept!
Also, you can run your own web and mail server too!
Good luck!

Hi,
I've run ftp,s on a win2k box using both IIS and Serv-U and both worked
well on a nokia m1122.
Normally I just use them in PASV mode, but also have ported 20 and 21
incase some clients cant use pasv mode.
Give me a yell if you need some more help.

Hi Guys,
Im having some troubles setting up an ftp server on my machine. My
machine is on a LAN and access the internet through a router (speedtouch
pro).
Ive tried using G6 FTP or SERV U .. all work on the router assigned ip
address but how would I get people outside of my network to access it.
The router automatically assigns ip address to everyone on the LAN .. in
the for of 10.0.0.x ..
Thanks
Jithen
