The UPnP Forum is the standards body that formulates specifications (or
Device Control Protocols [DCPs]) that will become a standard. The IGD
Device Control Protocol has just passed the 45-day review and will be
undergoing a vote to be approved as a standard. By the end of the
month, it will be a standard. Likewise the UPnP Forum is working on
DCPs in other disciplines: Audio/Video, Home Automation, Imaging and
Printing, Security among them. There is a certifying body, the UPnP
Implementers Corporation (UIC) that will certify and logo products that
comply to the UPnP standard and pass the certification test tool.
The IETF is not directly involved. We point to IETF specs, like SOAP.
