This discussion has become interesting!

The network in question is 210.86.52.0/22 so covers 52.0 -> 55.255.
There are 3 reserved addresses - 52.0 for network, 55.255 for broadcast
and 55.254 for the RAN interface. So 210.86.52.255 is a valid address.

As Craig has shown below the address is routable! What I am wondering
is - is the address not routable for just Chrissy? Is it a modem
problem? It looks like she has an internal modem - does this think all
.255 addresses are broadcast and therefore not useable? We had a problem
a long time ago with the M10 where the .127 was unusable because the
modem had an internal .128 mask.

I would contend that this is not a Telecom problem but a CPE problem!!
After all the network is the same for Chrissy and the customer who Craig
traceroute'd below.

What say you all?

Cheers
Wayne
ps this is my area as Chrissy says.

Telecom have filters on what IP Addresses that can be allocated to a
user,
so an ISP trying to allocate an IP Address which doesn't belong to the
ISP
is impossible (as Telecom Filter it out). BUT I have seen Telecom's
Radius
servers allocate "Random IP" addresses on FastIP Direct (On Modem
Dialup a
number of times, so as Jetstream/jetstart use the same radius servers
it
might be a similar fault).

The IP Address is a legal one.. (someone is on it a the moment), You
just
have to understand IP Addresses (or not understand it)

Type escape sequence to abort.

As they should be (and are in Telecom's T&C) the 1st contact of all
problems
you may have.

They help you fix your problem, or contact the right people to fix
your
problem.

It depends if you are on jetstream/jetstart.

The IP Allocation Part is not really Handled by the ADSL Help desk, as
they
look after the "physical layer" of the DSL Part. Anything other than
that is
handled by another department.
