Not sure if this is classed as technical or not!? (and it's not strictly
ADSL only)
I have been doing lots of research into faster flatrate broadband type
connections (256k or faster) and this is the best info that I have:
Telecom:
Bringing out faster flatrate around June 2002 (512k down, 256k up from
latest reports).
Walker Wireless:
Already have a 256k flatrate & 1Meg with 1Gig limit full duplex wireless
solutions at a reasonable price
Also bringing out a new wireless (direct line of site not required!)
internet connection, full duplex speed in April 2002, with varying speed
options - flatrate
IHUG:
Bringing out satellite uploading capability sometime this year (512k I
believe) - IHUG now have a 'pay as you go' type 'top-up your credit' pricing
scheme.
TelstraClear:
I believe that Clear Tempest (in varying delivery forms) is already
available in some areas, but I am unsure of the availability of solutions
like SSR or ADSL via TCNZ is to residential customers... see my previous
post.
Not sure if all of these are available to businesses, but there you have it
: )
Incidentally, I have all this info (incl. setup and monthly costs etc) and
more in a lovely Excel spreadsheet and I am willing to e-mail this to anyone
who is interested in taking a look. The SS compares initial setup and
monthly fee costs over the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years and it is very interesting
to compare the overall costs of different broadband solutions. It is
especially interesting to see the actual overall costs for the first year of
installation... just because a product has a low monthly cost, doesn't
necessarily mean that it is the cheapest overall (and visa-versa)! It also
lets you plug in your projected monthly traffic amount and shows you the
cost for each solution.
E-mail me directly if you want a copy.
Sam.
