While my current ISP have been good to me in the past, they've recently
changed their Jetstart terms of service (and *not* done a good job of
notifying customers), and implemented a traffic cap. My connection is
shared by a flat of 4 people, and looking at past usage, there's no way
we'll be staying anywhere near that level. So, rather than be pushed, I'm
jumping, and find myself in need of a new ISP.
I'd piggy-back on Mark's message about Paradise, but I'm looking for
different qualities in an ISP. Fast would be good, of course, and not
having a transparent Web proxy would be good (I'm on an Xtra connection
here at work, and their transparent proxy is an eternal annoyance - non-
transparent ones would be fine), but the most important point is no (or
perhaps just high) volume caps. I'm quite prepared to put up with the
lack of the others. Support is not important as long as the ISP
themselves don't screw things up - if I break my own configuration, fixing
it is my problem.
Xtra are a last-resort option, and by current reports, may not even be
that for much longer. Looking over the list archives, it looks as though
World-Net may be my best bet - anyone using them (preferably in
Wellington) have any comment? Anyone want to suggest any other ISPs?
